Wherein I sneeze all over my book…

159/365 - condensation A word about my project 365 picture for today.  Allergies have been bothering me all weekend and I’ve been feeling just beat down, with very little energy.  I tried to take a picture of a blue bird in a tree earlier and my eyes started watering, so much so that I couldn’t see what I was doing!  Anyway, while we were in a district meeting, I pulled out my camera and snapped a few shots of the centerpiece (that didn’t come out right) and then took one shot of my water bottle.  I’m too tired to come up with anything else, plus I like the bokeh background, so I’m keeping it.  Oh and I added the tiny word because it made me smile. :)

Anyway, I finally finished that book that several of you suggested a while back, Water for Elephants.  I have to admit, it felt like it took me a long time to get into this book, longer than usual… but if I’m going to be honest, it’s because I just refused to pick up the book for days at a time.  I started reading the book mid-May and I read a chapter and put it down.  It didn’t capture my attention.  Then a few days later I picked it up again and read some more and started getting into it… but because it kept jumping between the past and present day, I lost interest.  Weeks passed by.  Then on Friday I picked it up again and really got into it… I could barely put it down and finally finished it on Sunday.

It was a lot different than I expected… but that being said, I don’t think I knew really what it was going to be about.  It was kind of horrifying and tragic… but all in all, a good read.  Not one I think I’ll share with my mother though, even though I usually let her read books that I’ve finished,  I think this one is a bit too graphic for her.  I have another book that I’m going to start reading now (which I WILL share with my mom, lol), but after that I think I’ll have to go back to my last post and pick out a new book.  Unless you have some new books you’d like to recommend?  Luckily with summer comes more opportunities to sit, relax and read.  Ahhh… Looking forward to Friday, which is my last day of work and officially the start of summer!

P.S. Thanks to Matt for the title, which cracks me up!

    Allergies.

    Ugh.

    'Nuff said.
  • I hear that!
  • I think you should check out Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer. That one's pretty good, it has a good voice and it's sort of light but also poignant. It's very good, and one that I feel safe recommending to everyone (I used to work at a bookstore so I've got a lot of experience recommending books.) If I think of something else really awesome I'll be sure to let you know.

For allergies my advice is a neti pot! They work really well for the nasal component of allergies at least--maybe not for the eye part though.
  • I think I'll have to check out that book for the title alone, it sounds so nice! And that's so neat that you used to work at a bookstore... I've always wanted to! I've applied to work at Barnes & Noble every year since high school with no luck. :p

Thanks, I'll have to look into the neti pot too!

I can definitely feel you on the allergies. In addition to having so much flying in the air to make me sneeze, the coast of Lake Erie is currently inundated with mosquitos. They are on EVERYTHING.

I cant help you with picking a new book unless you are a fan of fantasy or sci-fi. If you are, boy have I got the 300 books for you!
  • Oh my word I HATE mosquitoes. Especially because they love me and find me anywhere. Yuck.

Hmmm, not a big fan of fantasy or sci-fi.. but did you ever read Ender's Game? I think it's sci-fi, my brother made me read it recently (he's obsessed with it) and I thought it was really good.

My Mom read that book & had the same problem as you getting into it. She offered to let me read it, but told me there were disturbing parts in it. She said it had a good outcome, but I am still refusing to read it. Kind of like how I refuse to watch "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas". Hope your allergies clear up soon!!
  • Yeah definitely disturbing and definitely good outcome. It might be worth a read.. just like "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" is worth a watch!

    Thank you!
