Ari’s big day!

What a day!  So much squee-worthy news, I hardly know where to begin!

Well, let’s start at the beginning.  Today I went in for my 2nd interview with the school I had interviewed with last week.  As you may recall, I had my hesitations about working there and was a bit worried about if it was the right place for me.   However, I spent the weekend doing my research on the school, along with talking to a friend who has a friend that works there.  It all added up to me realizing that the school has a really good reputation and that’s a start for me.

So today I went in, met the principal, presented a lesson.  I thought it went well, I know I did a few things that seemed to impress them.  Towards the end he started talking salary and benefits, which I thought was a good sign… I even managed to talk the principal into giving me more money than what he says he usually gives “new to them” teachers.  (Oh and sidebar: it’s not as much as I would’ve liked, nor as much as a school around my area would give me.. but it’s a start and a significant increase from my last job, so yay.)  However, he said he had one more person he had to interview but they would call me tomorrow.  He told me he would call tomorrow 3 times, reminding me that if I was offered the position I’d have to come in for paperwork.. and was I free tomorrow?  It made me think I had a good shot.

Meanwhile, I went to the gym like a good little girl… I didn’t go all weekend so I knew I really had to go today and cute trainer was there and really gave me a good workout.  Oh and he totally asked for my phone number and I gave it to him… we’ll see what happens there.  I’m not really holding my breath on that one tho, he’s just fun.  Tortures me at the gym, but makes me smile while I’m suffering so it’s all good.  Kinda.

After the gym I checked my phone and I had a missed call from a local number.  Checked the voicemail and VOILA!  I was being offered the position at the school!  Oh my goodness, such fantastic news.  It’s a kindergarten position and I’m a bit nervous about that because having a large class of 5 and 6 year olds is hard.  But I just got done teaching kindergarten so I’m in that mindset, I know what needs to be done, so that’s a plus.  Oh and PS, I got to see a classroom today.. it was beautiful.  I have never seen a more beautiful classroom, actually the entire school is just lovely – I’m really excited!

So after that my mom and I got to see a free sneak peek of the movie “Julie & Julia”.  I will have a more in-depth (but still spoiler-free!) review on that coming tomorrow but suffice it to say, I really enjoyed it… definitely DVD-worthy.  Oh and my mom and I walked out with some goodies – free reusable grocery bags from Whole Foods, a koozie from the local radio station, a bookmark and a laminated movie poster.

All in all, a beautiful day.  Made even better knowing that now that I have a job lined up for the fall, I can relax… and my dSLR is that much more of a reality!!  Squee!!

I already said it on flickr, but I think it deserves another mention here: congrats!

You definitely sound a lot happier, and getting a new job certainly does a lot to pick the mood up! When I got the job I am at now, I was working at a place I hated (and I truly mean that), and I was interviewing and putting out applications for an entire year...I was quite elated when I got offered a job! Im sure you will be riding this high for weeks!
  • Hee hee thanks!

Yeah I'm pretty excited... I mean, kinda down today when I realized that the dslr isn't as close as I thought it was going to be (mentioned on my pic today) but one day...
  • I am so happy for you! Seriously! This is amazing!

You should have bought a lottery ticket yesterday, it seemed to be your day!

I really hope I get the job now so I can come look at your amazing school!

And yes I'd totally like to show you it!

Fabulous, Ari! So happy you landed a job. Now you can enjoy the next few weeks before school starts again.

And maybe even get a date with Cute Trainer Guy. Did you finally dump the trainer who didn't seem to be doing much?
  • Few weeks = 2 weeks before work starts up. So soon!

Lol, well my trainer actually ended up quitting. I think he's around for the rest of the week though.

Whoo hoo!! How soon before you can move out on your own? Not to sound too much like a mom but make sure you have plenty of money saved up for moving expenses, rent in a nice place, emergencies etc. Some of my girls did that and some didn't, I have four, no boys.

I am so happy for you!
  • Ah there's the rub... I don't think I will be moving out on my own anytime soon. While the pay is definitely better, if I do move out on my own I'll be back to barely making ends meet. Meanwhile, if I stay with my parents I'm only paying $100 rent/month, and I can afford to pay off debt. I think I'm going to try to stay with my parents through the year, and maybe move over the summer... hopefully by then I'll have money saved up, like you said.

    4 girls, wow!
  • Laura Castle
Nice price. Even putting up with your mom "forcing" you to try some of the food you cook. Hope you do a good job on that.

I think you are wise to stay the year with your folks. It's not forever, just keep telling yourself that. All in all I feel it will all be alright cuz your folks are warming up to Bay. That says lots.

Yup, four girls, my poor Kenny. He only had two sisters with four brothers. He was hoping for at least one boy but after four girls we figured we'd end up with a girls basketball team if we just kept going. Although, sometimes I used to feel like someone was missing when we were all there. Hmm.
  • Oooh if you do move out, you should move in with me! Hahah
.-= Heather´s last blog ..Jury Duty Day =-.
  • Oooh that'd be cool!
  • I'm so excited for you! Seriously, you deserve this. Not only for all of the worrying you've done about it recently but for all of the hard work you've put in.

Can't wait to hear little snippets and "Kids say the darndest things" comments from you!

    SO EXCITED.

    Why not treat yourself to a trip to NYC...say...August 14th - 16th?! :)

  • Thanks Katie! Lol... siiiiigh I WISH I could come to NYC. SO bad. Next time?
  • Odd One In
Wow... job, more money, cute guy, movie, koozie (whatever that is), all in one day!
    Well done, Ari!!
Like I said to you before, the rewards from your efforts are coming!
    Woohoo!
I'm really happy for you, from the bum of my heart. :)
  • Koozie - those little things that you put around a cold can to keep them cool/your hands dry.

the bum of your heart? Awesome
  • Odd One In
Ah... koozie, like "stubby holder" in 'Australian'. :) "Stubby" being the bottle or can of beer. "Holder" being the action of holding the said stubby.

It IS awesome. I don't have a bum but my heart does. "You have a heart!?!?" she says.
  • Oh! I want to see that movie!

    AND CONGRATS!

(Also, go to BlogHer 2010. Thanks.) ;)
