Ari’s big day!
What a day! So much squee-worthy news, I hardly know where to begin!
Well, let’s start at the beginning. Today I went in for my 2nd interview with the school I had interviewed with last week. As you may recall, I had my hesitations about working there and was a bit worried about if it was the right place for me. However, I spent the weekend doing my research on the school, along with talking to a friend who has a friend that works there. It all added up to me realizing that the school has a really good reputation and that’s a start for me.
So today I went in, met the principal, presented a lesson. I thought it went well, I know I did a few things that seemed to impress them. Towards the end he started talking salary and benefits, which I thought was a good sign… I even managed to talk the principal into giving me more money than what he says he usually gives “new to them” teachers. (Oh and sidebar: it’s not as much as I would’ve liked, nor as much as a school around my area would give me.. but it’s a start and a significant increase from my last job, so yay.) However, he said he had one more person he had to interview but they would call me tomorrow. He told me he would call tomorrow 3 times, reminding me that if I was offered the position I’d have to come in for paperwork.. and was I free tomorrow? It made me think I had a good shot.
Meanwhile, I went to the gym like a good little girl… I didn’t go all weekend so I knew I really had to go today and cute trainer was there and really gave me a good workout. Oh and he totally asked for my phone number and I gave it to him… we’ll see what happens there. I’m not really holding my breath on that one tho, he’s just fun. Tortures me at the gym, but makes me smile while I’m suffering so it’s all good. Kinda.
After the gym I checked my phone and I had a missed call from a local number. Checked the voicemail and VOILA! I was being offered the position at the school! Oh my goodness, such fantastic news. It’s a kindergarten position and I’m a bit nervous about that because having a large class of 5 and 6 year olds is hard. But I just got done teaching kindergarten so I’m in that mindset, I know what needs to be done, so that’s a plus. Oh and PS, I got to see a classroom today.. it was beautiful. I have never seen a more beautiful classroom, actually the entire school is just lovely – I’m really excited!
So after that my mom and I got to see a free sneak peek of the movie “Julie & Julia”. I will have a more in-depth (but still spoiler-free!) review on that coming tomorrow but suffice it to say, I really enjoyed it… definitely DVD-worthy. Oh and my mom and I walked out with some goodies – free reusable grocery bags from Whole Foods, a koozie from the local radio station, a bookmark and a laminated movie poster.
All in all, a beautiful day. Made even better knowing that now that I have a job lined up for the fall, I can relax… and my dSLR is that much more of a reality!! Squee!!
