Say goodbye to the summer..

Posted by: curiousillusion on: August 4, 2009

Okay well technically summer the *season* is still around, judging by the 100+ degree heat.  But my summer, my last days of freedom are here.   Actually… today might almost be considered my last day of freedom.

You see, my cousin gets in tonight – he’s only here until Thursday and then we fly to Oregon together (although he will be back after a few weeks I think).  Tomorrow I believe I’m taking him shopping, because he likes to shop.  I think that’s what we’re doing anyway.  Then, as I said, Thursday we both fly to Oregon for a different cousin’s wedding, and my 6 days up there will be spent mostly with family, you know?   I get back Tuesday night and then BAM… Wednesday is supposed to be my first day of work.

Geez, where did the summer go?  I have to say, I really enjoyed the summer – not working for the first time in ages, sleeping in late, etc.  I’m kind of doomed when it comes to going back to work.. the past few days I haven’t been able to fall asleep before 2am, and for work I usually am in bed, hopefully asleep by 10pm.  Plus traveling to Oregon means being in a different time zone, which will also keep me up late.  I’m going to be sooo tired the first few days of work.  Coffee!

Oh and btw, I decided to follow the trend (since Heather and Matt did it first) and I changed my commenting system to Disqus because I absolutely adore it… I rarely subscribe to comments on other blogs because then I end up getting an email with *every* comment that comes after mine (which is really annoying on more popular blogs)… but on Disqus it only emails me when someone replies to my comment and I find that very handy.  Love it.  And I hope you love it too, although you don’t have to sign up for Disqus to comment on the blog if you don’t want to.   The only thing is… it’s taking *ages*to import my comments, which is why it looks like all comments are gone.  I’m hoping they reappear soon… like NOW! Yay my comments are imported!

  • My summers are never long enough, especially living in a place that has at least six months of winter.
  • This summer has been flying but it has been epic.
  • I know how you feel! I start tomorrow, and it feels weird getting back from the beach and just jumping into full time work. Not to mention, I haven't been occupied full time since high school--I'm definitely going to miss the flexibility that comes with college!
  • This is a test comment (when I tried to reply to Heather, got the 503 error)

I just now noticed that your blog is hosted by Matt! Hurrah!

How old is your cousin? He sounds like the younger-than-you type who you're not completely sure what to do with (other than shop - which always, for me at least, seems like the best fall back option when company visits).

And I'm totally psyched you got Disqus. And unlike Matt's situation, I was part of the reason hahah.
  • Teachers and their moaning! No sympathy ;)

My brother's back at work today because the big exam results are due out. He still didn't get up in time.

  • Ha ha you can have *some* sympathy... it's hard getting back into the swing of things!

Your poor brother! I fear that might be me at some point... that would be bad.

  • SO jealous that you are going to Oregon!! I love it there... whereabouts are you headed??
  • I haven't been in ages, I'm excited... and I'm going to Portland.

OK, trying my pain-in-the-ass-ness again. :)
  • Ah ha... now do you get this? Did you subscribe to replies btw?
  • odd_one_in
    Yes... hmm... surely... I must've... maybe... I think I did... could be... there's a chance I did...

    I could never ignore you!

Think of those of us who haven't stopped working while you've been sleeping in! :)
Oregon would be a really nice place to visit, no? I don't really know where it is. Is it North-West?
  • Yes, northwest. And I laugh at the people that don't have summers off!

Not really, I usually work during the summer.
  • TotallyHeather
I want to move to Seattle eventually. I've never been. If I move to Houston, I'm making you take a road trip with me to the Pacific Northwest.
  • You should totally go an enable some of the other cool Disqus features, like letting people leave comments via a Twitter or Facebook login. I just think that stuff is neat :)
  • I thought I did... I guess I didn't? Maybe you need to walk me through it...

Meanwhile, suddenly Disqus emails are going to my spam folder in yahoo. Annoying!
  • They don't go to my spam folder in Gmail! Hee!

The Facebook integration is a little tricky. You have to get an API key from Facebook and there's a bunch of steps...
  • But I did get an API key... the steps I might have gotten lost on tho, I'll admit.
  • TotallyHeather
    Ditto with the API key
  • Look at me...commenting from my Fizzy Bizzy account!
  • TotallyHeather
    Fizzy Bizzy? Hahahahahahahahahah
  • TotallyHeather
    Hahah I laughed
  • I need to add you on Facebook... hmm maybe I should do that since it's so convenient now, lol!
  • Of course, I have no idea why the wrong Facebook avatar is showing up for me...but I blame Disqus...somehow...not Ari!
