Home sweet home

Back in Houston… ahhh.  I had a great time in Oregon, really loved it there, but there’s something about being home that I look forward to – my own room, my own things… my cat!  Mmmm…  And speaking of home, I guess this really is my home – my new driver’s license finally came in the mail with this address listed on.  And NEW is the key word… they redesigned the Texas driver’s licenses and I was shocked when I saw mine.  Looks nicer though, and I have a little heart on it, indicating that I’m an organ donor.

Anyway, as happy as I am to be home, I’ll miss being up with my cousins.  I shared a room with one cousin, there was always family in the house – it was like I was living/spending time with the sisters I always wanted and never had.  We all got along so well it was great… it’ll be a lot quieter now and I’m not used to that anymore!

Meanwhile, I think I’m done with flickr. I made the decision a few days ago and have been thinking about it ever since – I’ll keep using it to upload photos for project 365 (which I was debating giving up on, but I’ve gotten this far, I might as well see it through) and when I get my dslr (I’m thinking for Christmas, because it should be cheaper by then) I’ll definitely take pictures… but I don’t want to go with the community aspect of it.  Leaving comments, faving pictures, being a good flickr member… I don’t have time for it.  I barely had time for it over the summer and now school is starting back up again and I can’t see where I’ll be able to have the time.  But we’ll see, maybe I’ll change my mind in a while.  For now though, I’m uploading and that’s it.

Speaking of work, tomorrow is supposed to be my first day.  I’m kind of antsy about it because I have yet to sign a contract – it wasn’t ready when I was filling out paperwork and then I left to Oregon.. but I was told I would get to sign it first thing Wednesday.  It will make me feel a lot better once I’ve signed a contract and am committed, completely, to this school… I guess a contract is like job security for me (in a matter of speaking) and having one would make me feel secure.

Unfortunately I have to wake up early tomorrow as a result (not as early as I will have to when classes begin, but early enough) so I guess it’s almost my bedtime!  Bye bye summer, I’ll miss you!

I can imagine being so involved in the community can be a time consuming task. I like the discussions and being a part of the Olympus community on flickr, and I have a few friends I check up on often, but I dont feel obligated to the community or any particular person. I think that is one of the reasons I have not attempted a 365 project - because obligation can turn me off of things so easily.

That being said, you will be missed on flickr, you can bet on that. Dont put down the camera, though! I find that reactions and communication about my photos has been a huge motivator for myself. I actually am a member of a local photography group, maybe that would be something to think about as well...mine meets once a week, but attending isnt manditory. Most people make it twice a month or so.

Anyways, if I dont see you around on flickr, I wish you safe travels, good friends, great laughs, and constant enjoyment!
  • Welcome back Ari. It sounds like you had a blast in Oregon! :)

I moved three years ago and never changed my address on my driver's license.

    Oops
  • Summer's really over then, huh? I hope the first day is going/went well!
  • Yay! Good luck on your first day Ari!!
  • i just upload to flickr and that's it. if i have friends who upload pics, i look at them. i dont really find flickr very community like.

and yes, once you sign the contract, it's more relieving.
  • Why do you have to be a community member? I mean, I love it for hosting, I don't comment on everyone's photos or anything all the time. I don't feel obligated. But maybe I'm a Flickr jerk, haha.
  • I'm the same way. Of course, the fact that I don't engage the community like Ari does is probably why she gets 100 billion comments on Flickr and I don't :)
