Back in S.A.
So when I left San Antonio, I thought I was gone for good. I said goodbye to my friends there with a feeling that I wouldn’t really see them again. And since two of my friends have families, I figured I wouldn’t really hear from them… one of them was pretty bad at returning phone calls to begin with, and anyway usually when I quit working/living in the same city as people, friendships disappear. Tragic but it happens.
Apparently it did not happen with my friends in San Antonio. We talk on a weekly basis, comparing notes since we’re in the same profession and some time over the summer I kind of had the idea that I should drive back one weekend. These girls were my movie buddies, my “meet over a cocktail and vent about the crappy day we had” friends… and I don’t have those friends here in Houston yet. Driving 3 hours both ways for a movie and some drinks with my girls seemed kind of worth it. And that’s saying a lot because I hate driving.
So this weekend I went up… and had a great time. We went shopping (two of us introduced the third to Lush, lol), had dinner and drinks at The Cheesecake Factory, smuggled cheesecake into the movie theater and ate it while watching the movie Whip It. Oh and for the record, I really enjoyed the movie… I came out of it wanting to see it again. I thought the sub plot with the boy took away from the roller derby part and therefore felt unnecessary, but otherwise I thought it was really good. Then the three of us parted ways and I met up with a different friend who was letting me crash at his place… we watched the first episode of Dexter (not sure how I feel about it), and just chatted. The next day the two of us had pancakes for breakfast, Starbucks and looked at all the calendars at Borders.
Sounds pretty simple but it was a perfect weekend. I got to get out of the house, get away from my parents for a bit and actually go out and DO things with friends. Good conversation, good times… I feel rejuvenated. And a bit tired from driving 6 hours in 2 days, but still… it was worth it. We were already planning for the next time we would get together… and I can’t wait. :) Hope it’s soon… after payday though, of course.
