A white… tomorrow?

Left my camera at home today.   Which was kind of a bummer because all the Christmas stuff that there is to photograph is at work.   We don’t have any decorations here at my parent’s house… which is bizarre for me because ever since I’ve had my own apartment, I’ve always decorated the day after Thanksgiving.  But this year my decorations are sitting in my storage unit and I think that’s why I’m not as into the season as I usually am.

Anyway, my picture today isn’t thrilling at all.  Plus I’m not entirely convinced it’s holiday-themed… but isn’t snow kind of holiday-related?  But I committed to this photo project and by George, I’m gonna get through one!  So I found this little foam pieces that I was planning on letting the kids use and I figured it could make a decent pic. Not great, but I tried to process the colors to make it seem slightly interesting.

[Day 3/24] - A white Christmas?

In related news, the big news around here is that it’s supposed to snow tomorrow.  We don’t get snow here very often.  And when we do, maybe once every few years, it’s just flurries, it doesn’t stick.  Now whether we actually get snow tomorrow, remains to be seen.  I’ll believe it when I see it.  The bummer is that it’s supposed to rain first, then turn to snow later.  As opposed to getting snow first thing in the morning which would equal a snow day.   Meh.

  • Boo on the snow! I don't like it except for taking photos of it when it's fresh and clean. Yeah for the photo! I thought those were Christmas cookies lol.

  • Yes, fresh and clean snow looks pretty - it's like a whole new world!
  • I like it. Are you doing a craft project with the foam snowflakes with your kids? I hope so because that sounds awesome! I wish I could do more arts and crafty stuff with my students. I often wish it would snow here. Just for a day would be great!
  • I hope to, although I haven't figured out what. I may just let them make a Christmas card or something.

I think I might just let myself get away with not decorating this year. It's more fun when you can decorate the whole place, but with a non-Christmas-celebrating roommate, it's not as fun.
  • Aw that's a shame. But I understand what you mean.
  • ari_b
We're supposed to get the rest of your snow tomorrow night! Supposed to.

I'm having a hard time getting in the Christmas spirit this year too, but I keep reminding myself that it's only the first week of December . . .
  • Didja get snow?! Yup, although Christmas is only 3 weeks away!
  • In Alabama it's always RAIN instead of snow. :( I grew up in Indiana and Kentucky, and I miss my snow.
  • Yeah it's usually rain instead of snow over here too. I figure, if it's gonna get really cold, it should just snow.
  • Snowflakes definitely fall under the holiday umbrella. Furthermore, this particular snowflake is sporting the Star of David right in the middle so you're in line with Hannukah at the very least. :)
  • Sweet, now it's not just a Christmas project! :)
  • I love the warmth of that photo, and the sparkle on the glitter. Maybe it will snow enough that everyone has to go home?
  • Thank you!
  • I can't believe that closing schools when it snows is even a thought. I've lived in Montreal for 10 years now and I think they've closed schools twice....due to a blizzard. I remember when in Dallas they would always close the schools until noon on snow days because we all know the sun will come up and melt the snow away.

I personally love your picture today. I like how its so focused in the foreground and kind of blurs outwards.
  • You have to understand that down here, we don't get snow. Ever. Maybe once every other or every few years. And when we do get it, it barely sticks. They were predicting (and we got) a winter storm and so the fear was that people wouldn't drive properly in it.

    And thanks. :)
  • I like the picture. At least you put forth effort to complete your daily project. Lots of people would have given up on today's assignment.

As for the snow we are suppose to be getting some here tonight. We rarely ever see snow here in Mississippi. So I'm like you I'll believe it when I see it.
  • Didja get any snow then?!
  • I'm getting some right now woo hoo
  • lrburt
We got rain-turned-to-snow-flurries yesterday. It lasted about...20 minutes, then was just wet again, lol.
  • Aw that's a bummer. No fun!
  • i agree that snow and glitter are definitely holiday-ish! good luck with the real snow tomorrow -- they're calling for a touch of it in my area (DC) on saturday -- fingers crossed (i adore snow).
  • I learned today that I adore snow too! I hope you got some! :)

    Snowflakes are very holiday-ish.

I agree with Lucy. Your determination to take the pictures is awesome. I love your dedication.

Tampa hasn't seen snow (or even snow flurries) in 32 years. I work with people who have never seen snow. And to me, I always figured Houston would have gone longer without snow. Longer than Tampa. In my head, Houston is supposed to be like Arizona.
  • Okay good. :) And I dunno, like I told Lucy - I may just be stubborn. Plus I didn't make it thru 365.

Lol, Houston isn't as hot as Arizona. Maybe almost in the summer. But we get chilly in the winter.
  • TotallyHeather
But you made it though more of 365 than I did! Hahah. I was in it for what? A day?
  • Maybe they'll give you a snow day anyway if they are worried about it snowing in the early afternoon? They do that here sometimes otherwise dismissal would be a mess.

And I totally think snow is holiday-ish. Being raised in a Jewish household we never had trees or lights. We had menorahs and snowflakes. :)
  • That's what we're hoping but you never know. Apparently it snowed here last year and they didn't close the school.
  • Lucy
I like your determination to take photos. Recently mine have been pretty bad. I hope it snows where you are and then you can take some snow pics :)
  • Lol, thanks. I think I'm just stubborn!
