Happiness.
Let me start by saying that today was an amazing day. Truly awesome. And, luckily for the blog, I have pictures of most all of it. Aren’t cameras wonderful?
The big thing around town, of course, was that it was supposed to snow. They had been predicting this for the past week but I didn’t believe it. All morning I would peer through the door window (which has a perfect view down a small hallway to the outside doors), hoping to see snow. Nothing. Then all of a sudden I heard a commotion outside. The middle schoolers, while switching classes, saw the snow and basically let everyone nearby know with their shouts of excitement. The kinder and first grade teachers made the decision to take the kids out. It was barely snowing though, more like flurries and rain (nothing showed up in the pics). And it was *cold*. But the kids loved it. We took them back in after about 5 minutes, then an announcement was made over the loud speaker “please do not take your students outside – this is instructional time.”
Blegh. Way harsh. I remember when it snowed when I was in 4th grade and my teacher let us go outside… it was a big deal. And we don’t get snow here often, definitely not on a regular basis. I think I can count on one hand how many times I’ve seen snow here. And of those times, the snow has actually stuck to the ground once. For like an hour. And it was barely a quarter of an inch, if that.
Anyway, a few hours later a teacher let me know that the snow was *really* coming down and oh wow, it was beautiful. So amazing. I gazed from my classroom door wistfully while other teachers took their kids out (it was their recess time so it was legit) and then the assistant principal came by. I asked to take the kids out and he said yes. Woohoo!
It was actually sticking! Covering the roofs in the background too. :)
My kids were so excited, they could hardly stand still. Or they were just cold… Either way, I wish this picture was in better focus but ah well…
Accidentally got snow on my lens and it gave it this blurry effect until I was able to wipe it off. I kinda dig it, even if it probably wasn’t that good for the camera.
So that was exciting. Then, when the kids went to Music, I happened to glance at the UPS tracking info on the *big purchase*… and it says it was DELIVERED. Say what?! It wasn’t supposed to arrive til Monday and last I heard it was in Mesquite (about 5 hours away) yesterday afternoon. I had secretly hoped it would arrive today but I didn’t want to hold my breath. I called my dad and he said that yes, they left it at the door (even tho it was signature required) but he wanted me to open it. So I had to anxiously await to get home.
But first I had to wipe snow from my car:
I’m telling you, we never get this much snow. Ever.
And then I got home, opened up the package and… voila. Nikon D90. Sooo beautiful.
Bay is going to get awfully tired of seeing a camera in her face. She better get used to it.
Then I remembered that I needed a 24 Days of Christmas picture. Hmmm…
So that was my huge day. Oh yeah, and something I had been wanting to buy online (for the camera) but had been out of stock finally got back in stock so I was able to order it – but I’ll save that story for when it gets here. :) I’ll admit, all the pictures that I took with the new cam are unedited, I haven’t gotten that far yet. I also haven’t gotten very far into reading the manual or learning how much of this works. But I have all weekend. And, you know, after that too.
I will also admit that I’m going to miss taking macros (close up pictures). This lens doesn’t do that, as far as I know. Gotta save up for a new lens… guess that’s my next project! Okay, okay, I’ll be happy with what I have right now. How can I not be… I got my new camera!!
