24 Days of Christmas catchup..

Been a while since I posted my 24 Days of Christmas pictures on here… I have a few that I’m proud of and a few that… well, ugh.  Isn’t that always how it goes? Anyway, after today there are only 9 more days in this project and I’m starting to run out of ideas so if you have any suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments.

[12/24] no peekingDay 12.  Okay this is my favorite of the series so far. Plus the story behind it is cute: I’m a notorious peeker and so this year my parents decided to get boxes to put the present in before wrapping it all up.  Makes it really hard to sneak a peek.  Anyway, I saw this box and wanted to photograph it – and get some Christmas tree bokeh while the tree was still up.  So I was pretty much laying across the dining room table trying to get the perfect angle… I’m sure my dad was thinking I was crazy.  But it was totally worth it.

[13/24] And I want a present THIS big... Day 13. This was taken after the trip to the park, and I love how the bows look on the top of the buildings.  Unfortunately it was dark and I have no tripod or any camera skills for shooting in the dark.  So I changed my camera setting to RAW (and haven’t looked back) in hopes of salvaging this shot.  This is the best I could come up with.

[14/24] Red cups = Christmas Day 14.  When I was thinking of things that reminded me of Christmas, the Starbucks red cups popped into my head.  And even though I’d done a shot of one recently, I really wanted to improve the shot, process it differently.  I think it looks bettter.  Oh and you need to take a *closer look* to see something that makes me smile. :)

[15/24] red and white.. or white and red? Day 15. So I took a shot of candy canes already in this project.  But those were mini candy canes and I hated the shot.  I wanted to do it again with the larger candy canes. I had no idea how to shoot it, but I knew I wanted it in the glass.  About half an hour later, this angle jumped out at me.

And now I have no idea what else to take a picture of.  Help!

  • Very nice pictures, especially the first one. Nicely done!
  • Great X-Mas bokeh in the top photo!
  • I like these. 'specially that candy cane one. Take some photos of Christmassy food and drink! Or of trees that have lost their leaves, or snow?
  • Do you have an advent calendar? You could take pictures inspired by what you find behind each day's door...!
  • I'm loving the first shot with the box and the candy cane picture.

Also, your photo of the Starbucks red cup makes me realize I haven't indulged in a Christmas-season drink yet! Yikes!
  • Candy canes!! I love them :)

I don't know anything about photography, so my opinion isn't worth much, but I'm really enjoying your pictures.

That box shot is fantastic!!!! :) What a nice idea for wrapping gifts. Makes it easier too lol
  • I especially love the first shot. So perfect. LOVE FEST!!!
  • Love the first one and the one with the Starbucks cup! SO glad you are shooting in RAW. It is the best move you could make. It allows you so much more room to fix pictures in post processing. Obviously you want to get exposure, etc good in camera, but if you shoot in raw there is so much more opprotunity for playing around.

    Congrats!
  • I agree. RAW is FTW. And now that you're shooting in RAW, when I finally get around to creating my post on digital photography workflow, it will apply as well!

(I had to start it over from scratch because I totally changed my workflow when I stopped using CS4 exclusively and fell victim to the siren song of Lightroom)
  • love the pics! keep 'em coming :)
  • I agree. The gift box photo is freakin' sweet. You're certainly finding your way with Lola. I knew you had it in you. And you're still only just starting. I can only imagine what you'll come up with when you really master that tool!
  • Enjoyed your pictures...I am a peeker too, one year my parents asked me why my younger brother and sister had only gotten into my presents that were under the tree...Ha-ha!

LOVE,LOVE,LOVE, that first shot of the gift box!! Ari you have really been rocking your pictures lately. that camera really was a great investment for you. you may be leaving teaching before too long and become an international photographer!

    i love the boy.

Ok wow. So that was meant to say, "I love the bow." But I decided to leave my typo there.

I'm not sure which picture is my favorite. They're all amazing. It's hard to choose. I'm glad it's hard to choose tho. Cause that means none of them suck (or there are no ugly trees haha) and they're all equally good!

Nice pics... you're doing really well with your camera.
And about the closer look... I didn't wanna... I don't wanna have to spend money! :p
    (I had a 'better' idea). :)
