three sixty five. take two.
So here I go again with the project 365. I’m really hoping that this year will go better, both in terms of pictures and successfully completing the project. I’ve decided that, for the foreseeable future, Fridays will be my three sixty five rewind day, where I will post the pictures that I have taken the previous week. Granted, if I have a picture I just feel I MUST blog, that’s an exception.
Another exception is that I’m not posting any self-portraits (that clearly show my face) on my blog. They are all up on my filckr page, but, for right now anyway, I’m not posting them here. Cuz it’s my blog and I said so.
In fact, I have a lot of exceptions with this new project, because I’m going to try to actually finish this project, and finish it right. So I’m trying to not put a lot of pressure on myself. I don’t think it’s working though.
Anyway, day one has a shot of my face so we’ll start with day two:
day two – “sometimes blurry is good.” I went to take some pictures of ducks by a pond and when I came back, I was complaining to my dad that this shot would have looked nice if it weren’t blurry. He told me “sometimes blurry is good”. I didn’t believe him, but when I played with this picture in photoshop and made it even blurrier, I think I got what he was saying.
day three – winter changes everything. This dead plant in the garden caught my eye, and I figured it was fitting for winter. I went back and forth with this and all the shots I took, and playing with this picture and finally I give up. I just wish I had a macro lens so that I could get closer!
day four – look into my crystal ball. Back in April I fell in love with some pictures taken by a friend who had a crystal ball. When I made the decision to try project 365 again, I knew I needed to buy some props to get me through the project.. and the crystal ball was the first prop I bought. It is so much fun, I know it’s going to show up in my project a lot. In fact, maybe too much.
day five – “There is something about the presence of a cat…that seems to take the bite out of being alone.” (quote by Louis Camuti). Got home and didn’t know what to take a picture of, at first I thought maybe a macro of the cat toy. And then I figured I’d try to get Bay in the shot. I know some people would say (and have said) that the cat should be the one in focus but I think this way tells more of a story.
day six – the world has gone upside down… but at least the sky is pink. See, I told you the crystal ball would make too many appearances. I actually didn’t mean to include this in my 365, I took the picture in the morning because I couldn’t resist the sunrise, but I thought the shot wasn’t great (I got the sideview mirror of my car in the shot, I eventually edited it out). But every other shot I took was horrible, and I really love all the different colors here, so I was convinced to use this as my picture.
day seven – baby it’s cold outside. This was a retake of a shot I nearly used for day six. In the previous attempt, I was frustrated that the shot didn’t come out crisp enough until someone told me to use a tripod. Duh, why was I just doing the “hold the camera up in the air and take a pic of myself” approach? Borrowed my dad’s camera, put the camera in live view mode and used a mirror to compose the shot, and I think I finally got what I wanted – to show off my favorite scarf.
I know it’s FAR too early to tell… but I’m really pleased with how this project is going so far. While I wish the day three plant shot would have worked out better, I’m actually happy with all of my pictures. I feel like you can see a definite change in my shots from last year, a vast improvement. Plus, seven days in and I already have four that made it into explore! Gee, no pressure or anything. But… I’m excited to see what this year brings!
