three sixty five. week two.

Another week of project 365.  I have to say, I thought it was a pretty good week again.

eight | orange you glad to see me? day eight – orange you glad to see me? I didn’t know what to take a picture of so I was looking around the house and thought about photographing an orange. When I caught sight of the reflection, I moved it against the white wall (which I had extend to the left since it’s short).  I’m not fond of how I processed it, it’s a bit too dark for my taste, but it goes with the granite, I guess.

nine | whatcha lookin' at? day nine – whatcha lookin’ at?  This squirrel jumped into the backyard, catching the eye of both my cat and myself. My dad encouraged me to get my camera (which was upstairs) but I was sure that by the time I got back, it would be gone. As it turns out, the squirrel sat nicely and allowed me to take a few photographs of him before he wandered off. I’m *really* proud of how much detail I managed to capture in this shot (in the fence, in his tail) and the bokeh dots in the background were a wonderful surprise when I look at the camera after he’d gone.

Day ten is a self-portrait of me, so you’ll have to go check that one out on flickr if you’re curious.  Sorry!  It’s a fun shot too, I played with sparkles in photoshop, although I’m not 100% sure how I feel about the end result.

eleven | you asked for it. day eleven – you asked for it. Okay this is pretty funny.  All weekend long the temperature had been hovering at freezing, and I was hoping for some ice to take pictures of.  I kept going into the garden and spraying the flowers, trying to make my own ice. Nothing.  Then Monday morning I walked out to my car and it was COVERED in ice. Well, I did ask for ice!  Had to take some pics before scraping it off.  I really was quite happy with how much detail I captured, although I still wish I had a macro lens, as that would’ve been better.  But if you check out last year’s pic of ice, you can see how much I’ve improved since last year.

twelve | look who came to class today! day twelve – look who came to class today! When I was hunting for props for my project, Wall-E came to mind.  I absolutely adore him.  At first I was just going to take a pic of him against a wall, and then my photography brain snapped on and I thought it’d look cuter if it looked like he was coming into the classroom.

thirteen | Wall-E worried he needed glasses... everything was a blur! day thirteen – Wall-E worried he needed glasses… everything was a blur!   I got my new 50mm f/1.8 lens and HAD to take a picture with it, showing off my new mad bokeh-capturing abilities.  And Wall-E wanted to make another appearance.. he’ll be popping up in my project from time to time.  I actually think this shot could have been better but I took over 100 shots and this was one of the better ones.

fourteen | hide me day fourteen – hide me.  This is a picture of a hand fan I bought recently, to use in my project.  I have to admit, all my other pictures this week were popular… except for this one.  And I love this one.  I played with the dof using the 50mm lens again, and then I tweaked some things in photoshop to give it a light, delicate feel.  I think it came out well.  Too bad no one else thought so!

So that’s it.. two weeks down.  Only fifty more to go. Piece of cake… ha ha!

    Wal-E! Love it! :)

    (it's nixiemichelle from flickr! :) )
  • Wonderful works :)
I am in love with pictures you've been posting for project365.

Keep up the wonderful work and stay in touch :D

    Cheers!!
  • Such fun photography! Best of luck on your 365!!! Hoping you have many opportunities to experiment and grow! I'll be following :)
  • How considerate of that cute squirrel to sit there so nicely!
  • TotallyHeather
I absolutely adore the picture of the squirrel! And it's not because in 2008 I had an entire calendar of squirrels because I love all things cute and furry...
  • I love the orange and the squirrly squirrel!
  • I commented on Flickr, I think, but I love everything you've come up with so far this year.
  • I think that maybe part of the issue with the fan picture is that it might be a tad dark...at least, in my opinion. Although I tend to expose almost everything about a quarter-stop (if that's possible) too dark anyway, so who I am to comment? :)

I still love the pic of Wall-E entering the room. It is full of motion and personality. One of you best, in my humble opinion.
  • Actually... I kinda processed it that way on purpose. The colors kept photographing a bit bright and I wanted to subdue it. Hmm.

And as for that Wall-E pic... I'm proud that I came up with it, although the shot could've been better. I guess because the hallway was so bright, right behind his eyes looks a bit iffy. Funny stuff tho, I'm sure people walking by were amused to see a teacher lying on the floor taking pictures of a toy.
  • Oh, I like the muted colors. I think the exposure is just too dark. I guess
what I would say in that case of "too bright colors" is instead of bringing
down the exposure, is desaturate the image. Again, personal taste, but I
don't wonder if that was part of why it didn't get your usual fifity
    gajillion Flickr comments :)
  • Well, I didn't bring down the exposure, I actually added an action... but I get what you're saying. I just played with it in photoshop and I see the difference. I think I'll replace the current version with the newer one.

Lol, sigh yes, I did miss my usual fifty gajillion flickr comments. Today's pic isn't gonna get that many either. Boys just don't tend to comment on pretty girly things, I guess. (that's my reasoning anyway)
  • I think you should keep putting up pictures of pretty girly things ... it's kind of intimidating for us mere mortals to see how many comment you get ... Every Single Day!!!

Seriously though, you have a great imagination for picture taking. And I wouldn't be at all shocked if the Wall-E one ends up being one of your favorites at the end of the year. Sometimes those simple ideas are every bit as good as the elaborate "artsy fartsy" staged shots. (IMO).
  • I love these. Especially the ones with Wall-E. You are so talented. I love all of your pictures!
  • You're an amazing photographer! Looking forward to week 3!
  • Foxymoron
    WALL-E!!!! Day 13, it's my favorite.
  • I don't think the orange is too dark, but I like dark. Love the angle and light on the frost shot. Gorgeous as usual. Love fest!
  • ari_b
Beautiful!! I love the orange shot!! I think its my favorite one so far.
  • Love the frost pic and the ones of Wall-E! I haven't seen the movie but now I want to, he looks so cute :)
    Congrats on finishing week 2!
  • Quave
Piece of a nice big cake. :)
Nice pics... looking forward to the rest!
    Bcos you will finish, right?
