Little Miss Cranky

I’m feeling kinda cranky.  About quite a few things.  So instead of coming up with a well-written blog post, I shall write… bullet points.  And… even better… I’m going to write bullet points on what is currently making me cranky.  Whee!

It makes me cranky…

  • when a parent gives me grief for something that is out of my control.  I’m not going to go into details but let’s just say that some people need to realize that their attitude and words hurt.  Just when I was starting to feel like a good teacher, my parade gets rained on.
  • when the same parent passes on her disappointment to her child.  Now I’ve got grief coming from both sides.  There’s nothing quite like a blase kindergartner acting bored all day long.
  • when something I want (*cough MacBook Pro cough*) is suddenly further from my reach, due to Apple probably coming out with a newer version soon.  And by soon it could be like 2 months away.  Do they not realize I’m the most impatient person in the world?  Did they really have to start rumors of a new MacBook when I’m thisclose to getting one, finally?!  Siiiiiigh.  I know people are gonna get mad but I really don’t know if I can wait this long.  My current computer is killing me.
  • when a picture doesn’t come out exactly like I had pictured in my mind.  Unfortunately that’s something I’m coming to grips with because I think that’s always going to be the case.
  • that I have to get observed at work tomorrow.  Only because observations shouldn’t be 45 minutes long – my students barely have a 5 minute attention span, there’s  no way they’re gonna be well-behaved for 45 minutes.

To end the blog post on a happy note, it looks like my mom might be getting me Photoshop for my birthday.  I say might because she thinks she gets a good discount (she uses photoshop a lot for work, attends seminars, etc) but I don’t think her discount is going to be as good as she thinks.  That being said, it’s gonna be some birthday if I get Photoshop… but I don’t have the MacBook to go with it.  Rawr.

Okay how’s this for a happy ending… a flickr friend made a cute little hat for Danbo:

Danbo got a Valentine... and present! Cutest… thing… ever!!!

  • After reading all the posts I've missed while being busy I have to say your photography skills are getting better and better! (and I do realize I have told you this quite often, and I shall tell you it again)

Anywhoo. I wanted a MacBook Pro too and didn't even know they were coming out with a newer version until I read this, thanks for the heads up. And just like you I'll be waiting a couple of months before I get one.

Sorry to hear about the cranky parent, and good luck on your observation!

on the macbook pro thing, don't wait. every version is tweaked just a little bit, but if you keep waiting they will always have something better! so start saving and when you have the money just get it. you should qualify for an educator's discount too, which may knock off 100-200 also. keep up your great work. your pics have been fantastic, and creative.
  • Aw! Danbo's hat is so cute!

And I totally get the parent thing. Today I got an email from a parent asking why there were no grades in the computer for his daughter. I was like, "hello crazy man! the nine weeks started a week ago and your daughter has gotten straight A's in my class for the past two marking periods! Wtf, are you worrying about!"

This is the life of a teacher I guess.

And if it makes you feel better, I run a *cough*stolen*cough* version of CS3 and Lightroom. Oh and teachers get discounts on Macbooks and Adobe software.
  • Oh, you crack me up. I hate feeling cranky, but it happens a lot.
I'd die for a macbook pro, but living in a third world country doesn't help.

I suppose you could download it from a torrent even though it's probably illegal? It might not be illegal if you don't use it for commercial work.

I hate when people think that they know your job better than you . . . I think its my biggest pet peeve. I'm so sorry you have a parent like that.

What about a refurbished Mac? They're a lot cheaper and work just as good . . . just a thought.

Good luck with the observation! I hope it goes well!

That hat is too cute!! I want a Danbo real bad now.
  • Yeah I've been thinking of the refubished. The problem is (I guess I didn't make myself too clear) is that there might be a new laptop coming out, so everyone is telling me to wait until the new one comes out... because that means I can either get a better laptop or the macbook pro that I'm wanting now might be cheaper.

    Siiiiigh.

You could just rebuild your laptop in the meantime.
And yes... how many hairs have you pulled out waiting for the pretty drawing geek device?
Oh, and what a great present!
  • Awwwww! Good luck with the observation!
  • Who told you "two months"? All the rumor sites I read say "any day now".
  • Ummm. I forgot. But if it's any day now, that makes me happier. I can may be wait that long. Umm... maybe.
  • Sorry about the MacBook thingy. Honestly, as much as a PC person I am, I want you to get the most for your money. Even if it means waiting just a little longer for a Macbook
  • I know, and I know you're right. And I'm gonna try to wait a bit longer. But it might be hard to wait. Mainly cuz my current computer has multiple forms of issues. Blah.
  • justtheashes
Do you HAVE to have the newest version on the Mac?
I wouldnt hold out on Apple. Chances are you'd wait and it wont even be THAT much better.
If you want to mac now, just get it now. :)
trust me, you'll be happy with the macbook pro no matter what. Its amazing.
  • Well if it's faster and better (but not too much cheaper) then yes, I wouldn't mind getting the newest version.

But the other thing is, if a newer version IS coming out, then the current version I want might end up dropping in price. Which would be good if I could save some money, ya know?

But you're right, I'll totally be happy with my macbook pro. Just need my tax refund to get here!
  • I bet you make it through the observation with flying colors! And I don't have Photoshop CS, it's too expensive, even with my student discount.
