So what is this project 365 I speak of, you might be wondering? The general idea is this: you take one picture, every day, for 365 days. The picture can be anything you want – it can be representative of how your day went, it can be of something you think looks pretty… the possibilities are endless. It’s a good way to get out and use your camera, and improve your photography skills (and photoshopping skills, if you are so inclined).
I tried project 365 in 2009, starting on January 1st. It went well…
and then it didn’t.
Around the summer I moved and really just ran out of inspiration. At the beginning of October, a mere 90 days or so before completing my goal, I quit. At the time, I thought it was a good decision – I went from taking pictures that I worked hard on to taking uninspired, uninteresting photos with the iPhone. I wanted my project to be more than that.
However, ever since I quit, I’ve had a nagging feeling that I should’ve finished. I *could have* finished, I was so close. At the beginning of December I started (and successfully completed!) a new project, 24 Days of Christmas (1 picture a day for 24 days, all holiday themed). And a few days after I started that, the dSLR I ordered finally arrived – a Nikon D90 I named Lola, something I had been dreaming of for months.
Now I’m ready to try to tackle project 365 again. Day 1 will be January 1, 2010 and I’m more determined that ever. I will be posting pictures here on the blog and on flickr, and I can use all the support I can get!
I heard about some people talking about starting 365 on livejournal and since I had just received a new camera for Christmas, I decided I wanted to start. Day 1 was January 1st and I’ve been pretty consistent about taking a picture a day ever since. Not every picture is perfect or even good… but I can already see a bit of improvements and I’m really enjoying the project so far.
In case you are wondering – I don’t have a fancy dSLR camera, I just use a point and shoot – an Olympus Stylus 840. Back when I was hoping for a new camera, the only requirements I had was that it have a decent zoom (it’s at 5x, which isn’t bad) and that it be pink. Lol, pink! How silly! Now I wish I had thought it through a bit more, and I have my heart set on getting a dSLR at some point… while I do like my camera, it’s a bit limiting.
Anyway, all of my project 365 pictures are up on Flickr, and I hope to start adding blog posts about my pictures as I take them. :)
Oh and if you’d like to donate to the new computer fund, there’s a link on the right side of this site. Just, you know, in case you were feeling generous. :o)
